Spring Crush 2016

The best kept secret in New York is located in the East Village.

Imagine a private wine club, in which you crush grapes, then allow them to ferment, before participating in the bottling, and then you get to drink the very wine you helped produce.

This exists, and it’s called The Village Winery Club. And in addition to making the wines, you are invited to several events to drink the wines of past and present, catered with delicious food pairings by none other than me.

The most recent event was a grape crushing just this past Sunday, May 22nd. The pairings went a little like this:

Avenue Cee Cabernet- Dark Roast Coffee, Leather, Tobacco, Bold flavor. Pairing: Coffee Roasted Beef Wrapped around Grilled Asparagus. (photo credit: Brandon T.)

Loisaida Sirah- Rich and deep in texture, dark fruit, ripe. Pairing:Chilled Chickpea Salad with Chorizo and Sun Dried Tomatoes.

Pinotage- Smoky profile with low acid and round finish. Pairing :House Smoked Scottish Salmon, Romesco Sauce
